Lecture-5.1: Data Centers in Bangladesh (DBMS)

  Data Centers in Bangladesh

Introduction

The data center at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park, Gazipur, spans 7 acres and is powered by advanced cloud computing and G-Cloud technologies. It is the 7th largest data center in the world, ensuring zero downtime. The center provides a range of services, including cloud computing, cloud desktops, cloud storage, data storage and backup, data security, and co-location services.

With an impressive uptime of 99.995%, the data center operates 24/7, managed by a team of skilled professionals. To ensure seamless operations, the proposal to establish "Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited (BDCCL)" was approved by the Cabinet on December 30, 2019. The company was officially registered on September 16, 2020, and is now actively managing the data center's operations.

Question-1: How many data centers are present in Bangladesh?

Answer:

Bangladesh has 13 data centers. A significant portion of these are located in Dhaka, the capital city. Two national data centers, one Tier III and the other Tier IV, are also in operation, storing data generated by the government.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • National Data Centers:

Bangladesh has two national data centers. The first, inaugurated in 2010 by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), is Tier III certified. The second, the world's 7th largest, is Tier IV certified.

  • Other Data Centers:

Besides the national data centers, there are 10 other data centers in Bangladesh, primarily in Dhaka.

  • Tier Ratings:

The two national data centers are Tier III and Tier IV, indicating their levels of redundancy and reliability. Tier IV offers the highest level of redundancy.

  • Location:

The majority of data centers are located in Dhaka. However, there are also data centers in Chittagong and Jashore.

  • Cloud Data Center:

Bangladesh's first cloud data center, named Meghna Cloud, is located in the Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City.
