 Operating System and its function

An operating system is a program that acts as an interface between the user and the computer hardware and controls the execution of all kinds of programs. A computer system can be divided into four components: hardware, operating system, application programs and user.

Functions of Operating Systems:

1)     Controlling System Performance.

2)     Memory Management.

3)     Device Management.

4)     Coordination between other software and the user.

5)     Process Management.

6)     Resource Allocation.

7)     Information and Resource Protection.

8)     Scheduling of resources and jobs.

9)     Security.

10)   Monitoring Activities.

11)  Job Accounting.
